Eating Disorder Recovery

Day 11

We fantasize about many things. A better job, losing weight, a different body. And then we feel guilty. What would it be like to explore and seek to understand these desires?

Begin the guided prayer using the audio player.

Focus

When we avoid, or beat ourselves up, for not feeling content, we fail to learn about ourselves. What if, instead of trying harder to be content, we invited God into these longings and believed they were a path to know God better?

A fantasy for a flatter stomach may really be a desire to be loved by another. Or to feel free of shame. A longing to lose weight may reflect a desire to feel competent and safe. A pursuit of a toned physique may reflect a core belief that you are weak. Don’t shut down the fantasy, invite God into it. Ask God to meet those needs.

“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” —Psalm 37:4

Journal

Take 2-3 minutes and journal what you imagined your day would look like if you believed today’s truth. God is pursuing you.
