Eating Disorder Recovery

Day 12

Many who struggle with eating issues feel deep and paralyzing guilt. You may even sense that you deserve punishment and feel compelled to carry it out on yourself through your behaviors – restricting, purging, self-harm.

Begin the guided prayer using the audio player.

Focus

We are all broken and make regrettable choices. We turn away from God and choose our own ways (Jeremiah 2:13). God is not ignorant and knows this harms our ability to live well.

But, rather than joining in our self-condemnation or encouraging self-punishment, God has devised a way to resolve the problem—Jesus. “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to rightesousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” — 1 Peter 2:24

We need not, and should not punish ourselves, for self-punishment is another turning away from God. Instead, turn to God with your guilt. Receive the work done on your behalf.

Journal

Take 2-3 minutes and journal what you imagined your day would look like if you believed today’s truth. No more self-punishment is needed.
