Eating Disorder Recovery

Day 17

What do you think about most? Losing weight? Exercising right? Avoiding “unhealthy and unclean foods”? All of these things can be good. Or they can consume us and begin to narrow our quality of life such that we lose sight of all other beauty in the world.

Begin the guided prayer using the audio player.

Focus

Pastor Tim Keller says that “when a good thing becomes an ultimate thing, it will deceive and enslave us.” Do you feel deceived? What promised has your eating disorder made yet failed to deliver ? Are you pursuing thinness at the expense of your own freedom? Has bingeing ceased to provide any comfort and instead deliver only shame and guilt?

We were made for so much more! These good things were not meant to be our source of meaning, purpose, safety or identity. Only when you see the beauty of the One who pursues you at the expense of his own life will you begin to be set free.

Journal

Take 2-3 minutes and journal what you imagined your day would look like if you believed today’s truth. “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” —Matthew 6:33
